Snapping 6 week-old kittens is harder than it sounds.
Seriously. Look at these precious monsters!
I've spent the last few weeks with my ear to the ground, focused on finding anyone who might have a litter of kittens or puppies I could photograph for a new product line I'm developing.
So, imagine my excitement when I heard that the family who owns an independent pet supply store in my neighborhood had recently worked with a customer to rescue an abandoned mama cat and her five tiny babies. Obviously, this pretty lady wasn't feral -- when they put down a carrier for her, Miss Blackberry walked right in.
By the time I heard about the kittens, they were already about six and a half weeks old -- slightly on the grown-up side for what I was envisioning, but WHO CARES.... because kittens.
The family was kind enough to let me use the babies as models, and I got to learn first-hand that, even though I've had cats all my life and have raised several from kittens, I had NO IDEA what I was getting into with five of them, fresh off a meal, all at once.
I was chewed on, scratched, latched onto, run into, run away from, and ended up sweaty and frazzled, despite the kitten-calming magic of my amazing assistant. And, even though I'm typing this with a ring finger that's a wee bit sore from having been snagged by a practically hypodermic claw, I had a blast.
The first session got me posed shots of three of the five little ones --
It's taken me two sessions (again, because kittens), but I've managed to get all five babies AND Blackberry looking so cute I could just smoosh their little faces all over again.
So, keep a lookout for an upcoming announcement about the availability of Furbaby Announcements! And until then, check Instagram for more sneak peeks of these precious faces!
